Spiti Road Trip (Day 3) – 14,100 Feet Closer to the Moon

Chandrataal isn’t a destination, it’s an experience.

Lungs burn with an intensity you’ve never felt before, and your heart thumps so violently against your ribs that it echoes in your ears. Every ten steps on the narrow dirt trail is a test of human endurance. Passing this test meant, you could witness a natural wonder like no other, failing it would be appreciated by your body.. what would you choose?

To understand how we ended up frozen to the bone at the edge of a mystical lake, we have to rewind twelve hours to the morning, when the sun was bright, our lungs were full, and the road ahead promised nothing but grand horizons.

Spiti Road Trip (Day 2) – Kaza and Beyond

Waking up in Kaza is an exercise in slow motion. You don’t just jump out of bed, you sit up, wait for your racing pulse to settle, take a deep breath of ice-cold air, and remind yourself to move with intention.

Today’s itinerary was a punishing loop through the highest inhabited pockets of the world. We were leaving the valley floor to push our bodies to the literal ceiling of the earth.

Spiti Road Trip (Day 1)- The long road to Kaza

They don’t tell you about the silence.

Everyone talks about the views, the postcard-perfect monasteries clinging to crumbling cliffs, the sapphire waters of Chandrataal, and the violent pink hue of a Himalayan sunset. But no one warns about the heavy, echoing quiet that hits us the moment the cell phone signal drops to zero.

Spiti doesn’t invite, it tolerates.

If you want to know what it actually feels like when your comfort zone completely evaporates at 14,000 feet, strap in. This is the unfiltered, slow burn of a story of how we climbed to the roof of the world, and how we learned to breathe all over again.
