Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of Kerala, and is home to the erstwhile Travancore kingdom. It is not a massive tourism magnate like the biggest city of the state Kochi, however it does boast of some truly amazing things that needs to be explored and experienced. In no particular order, here are my top 5 experiences in and around the city.
The Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who as per Hinduism is the preserver of life. Here he can be seen in his ‘Ananta Shayana’ form (eternal yogic sleep), on the infinite serpent Adishesha (Sheshnag).
Though Padmanabhaswamy Temple has always had a steady influx of pilgrims over centuries, it shot into limelight recently when the word of its enormous treasure trove became public. Some of its vaults still remain closed, but whatever treasure has yet been discovered has catapulted this temple to being the Richest Temple in the World.
Kovalam Beach comprises of three crescent shaped beaches, each of which has something unique to offer. While some offer unmatched natural beauty, the other has watersports in its kitty, while another is just for a laid back vacation. Nestled inside Kerala, the god’s own country, Kovalam is one experience that must not be missed.
