Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is an observatory, created for the purpose of studying the universe in 1734 AD. A collection of multiple astronomical instruments, Jantar Mantar, is a testament to not only the scientific prowess of the Rajputs, but also provides a glimpse of the hunger of knowledge our ancestors had.
Flush with historic monuments and ruins, the small town of Murshidabad, is a treat for any history buff. The colonial era structures that dot the town, offers a different and unique experience as such architecture is not seen anywhere else in India.
West Bengal has had a rich history of terracotta temples, which are sprinkled throughout the state. The most popular ones among these are in Bishnupur, however Baranagar near Murshidabad is a hidden ge, in that regard which also has a fair share of these terracotta masterpieces.
The Odisha Maritime Museum, is a repurposed colonial structure, that during the British rule acted as a maritime workshop for inland water communication of the Bengal Presidency (state of Bengal, Odisha and Bihar). Built in 1867, this building now houses, more than 10 galleries showcasing the rich maritime history of the state.
Also known as the Amba Vilas Palace, this grand structure is located at the heart of Mysore city, dominating the city’s skyline.
The first iteration of this palace was built in the 14th century by Yaduraya Wodeyar, after which this palace has been reconstructed and renovated several times, to become the architectural and artistic marvel it is today.
Neermahal in Tripura stands on a island in the mighty Rudrasagar Lake. It is an extremely gorgeous palace that has for long been overlooked by tourists. The palace is the second largest lake palace in India, however the dearth of exposure this magnificent peice of architecture has faced is nothing short of unfortunate.
